“Lucas Paquetá’s Mysterious Instagram post after West Ham’s 3-0 loss. Is this a warning or a promise?
Lucas Paquetá shared a brief message on Instagram following West Ham’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea yesterday. A few hours after the match, the Brazilian midfielder wrote: “We need to improve, and we will continue to grow, believing that we can do better together!”
While Paquetá had some positive moments during the game, as one of the team’s key and experienced players, he knows he needs to step up. He hasn’t yet delivered a performance in the first five matches that reflects his true potential, as fans have seen before under David Moyes.
He still has the ability to provide moments of excitement, but he is also prone to errors, such as careless giveaways in the defensive third.
West Ham appeared vulnerable to counterattacks against Chelsea, conceding three goals on the break and potentially more. One reason Julen Lopetegui was brought in was to reduce the number of goals conceded last season under Moyes, but that objective hasn’t materialized thus far.
At times, the team looked comfortable in possession and dangerous in attack, but they struggled to break down a Chelsea defense that isn’t particularly strong. Kudus and Summerville showed promise on the wings, while Paquetá and Bowen found it difficult to make an impact centrally.
Significant changes will be necessary in the upcoming matches if Lopetegui hopes to turn things around in East London. While he isn’t under pressure yet, continued performances like this will increase that pressure.
