West Ham United is set to face Liverpool at Anfield tonight in the third round of the Carabao Cup, a significant opportunity for the Hammers to secure some silverware this season.

Before they can think about glory, West Ham must first overcome Liverpool, and manager Julen Lopetegui is anticipated to make several adjustments to the lineup.

The last encounter in this competition nine months ago saw a disappointing 5-1 defeat, where David Moyes’s unusual starting XI failed to deliver, leaving the 6,000 traveling fans disheartened.

Despite expectations of changes following their recent loss to Chelsea, Lopetegui’s squad should prove more competitive than the one that struggled against Liverpool last December.

Tonight’s match offers Lopetegui the chance to rotate his team. It’s likely he will implement three or four changes at minimum.

Notably, Lukasz Fabianski has been confirmed to start in goal. Lopetegui praised him in an interview with WHUFC.com, stating, “Lukasz is going to play, for sure. He brings us security, works hard, and is always ready.”

Fabianski has been a reliable presence for West Ham, especially given Alphonse Areola’s inconsistent performances this season. The 39-year-old has played only 45 minutes in the Premier League but did well as a substitute against Manchester City and kept a clean sheet in the previous Carabao Cup match against Bournemouth.

Having served the club faithfully for six years, Fabianski deserves this opportunity. Hopefully, he’ll have a quiet night at Anfield, though that may not be the case!
