Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has indicated that a late decision will be made regarding the fitness of captain Son Heung-min before Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester United.
Son played in Thursday’s Europa League opener against Qarabag, which Spurs won 3-0, but he required treatment and left the game limping in the 71st minute, replaced by Timo Werner.

Ahead of the match at Old Trafford, Postecoglou expressed hope that Son’s hamstring issue isn’t serious and that he can train on Saturday. “The players who worked hard are quite tired. Other than Son, everyone else is fine,” he said. “I don’t think Son is too bad. He wants to train tomorrow, and we’ll assess him then. We have another day to give him the best chance.”
If Son is unable to play, Werner and promising young player Mikey Moore are potential replacements. Postecoglou commented on Moore’s readiness, stating, “I wouldn’t say he’s not ready. We’ll see about Son. With Wilson (Odobert) out and Richarlison unavailable, we have limited options. Timo and Mikey can step in, and we also have Deki Kulusevski who can play wide, so we do have some alternatives.”
Regarding Son’s contract situation, Postecoglou noted the importance of the discussions surrounding the 32-year-old forward. Son’s current contract expires next summer, but Tottenham has the option to extend it for another year, which is likely to be exercised. Postecoglou expressed his desire for Son to continue at the club, saying, “I may not have the final say, but I believe my input is significant. Given his current performance and leadership, I definitely want him to stay longer.”
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan’s highly-rated forward Marcus Thuram, though they will face competition from Aston Villa. Since joining Inter from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer, Thuram has significantly improved his game, attracting attention for a potential big-money move.
Additionally, Postecoglou assured summer signing Lucas Bergvall that he will receive “plenty of opportunities” after being substituted just 10 minutes into the Europa League match against Qarabag.
