After Manchester United’s defeat, Bruno Fernandes maintained that his red card was “never a red,” acknowledging it was a foul but not worthy of dismissal. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, however, chose not to delve into the controversy, instead praising his team’s performance for applying “pressure” on United.
Postecoglou attributed Fernandes’ sending off to the pressure his team exerted during their commanding 3-0 victory at Old Trafford. Spurs took an early lead with Brennan Johnson’s goal within three minutes, and after Fernandes was sent off for a high challenge on James Maddison, Tottenham capitalized with goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.
“I think it was a consequence of how we were playing,” Postecoglou said, highlighting the intense pressure that kept United pinned back. He acknowledged that his side could have scored more but commended their strong start and control of the game after the red card.
