Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly competing with Liverpool to secure the signing of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.
Currently, Spurs rely on Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero as their starting center-back duo, with Radu Dragusin added for depth last winter. However, Dragusin has yet to earn a regular spot in Ange Postecoglou’s lineup, and after being sent off early in a recent Europa League match against Qarabag, his chances seem even slimmer.
As a result, Tottenham is looking to bolster their defense and has expressed interest in Guehi, with plans to make a formal approach next year. Crystal Palace had set a £70 million asking price for the England international this summer, but with his contract entering its final year after this season, they may struggle to command that fee.
While the Eagles aim to extend Guehi’s contract, the player is not in a hurry to commit, and Palace is prepared to sell if no agreement is reached in the coming months. They hope to offload him in January to maximize their return, as they likely won’t see close to their £70 million valuation next summer.
Liverpool is also monitoring Guehi’s situation, along with Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle United. Following Joel Matip’s departure, Liverpool did not sign a replacement this summer, and with uncertainty surrounding Virgil van Dijk’s future, they are exploring defensive options.
Guehi is considered one of England’s top young center-backs and has already established himself in the national team. Securing his services would be a significant boost for either Tottenham or Liverpool. It remains to be seen which club will ultimately land him next year.
