Former Leicester City player Matt Piper believes that ex-Foxes manager Enzo Maresca, now at Chelsea, is likely keeping an eye on Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen due to his impressive skills.
Hermansen joined Leicester last year while they were in the Championship and has made 50 appearances since then. Although Maresca showed interest in bringing Hermansen to Chelsea this summer, the deal ultimately fell through.
Piper notes that Hermansen’s ball-playing abilities far surpass those of Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez. He feels Maresca is still monitoring Hermansen’s performances at the King Power Stadium.
“Enzo clearly wanted to bring Hermansen to Chelsea, but that deal didn’t happen,” Piper said on *When You’re Smiling*. “I’m sure he’s still watching him closely.”
Piper emphasized the contrast between Sanchez and Hermansen, praising Hermansen’s composure and decision-making when playing from the back.
Despite Leicester’s recent 4-2 loss to Arsenal, Hermansen earned praise for his shot-stopping skills, which Piper acknowledges as well.
“He’s also demonstrated his ability on the defensive side with his shot-stopping,” Piper added.
As Leicester aims to avoid relegation this season after a rocky return to the Premier League, Hermansen will play a crucial role in their efforts.
