Ange Postecoglou has positioned him alongside Dejan Kulusevski as the two number eights, with Rodrigo Bentancur acting as the number six. This adjustment has enabled Maddison to influence games more effectively while allowing Kulusevski to flourish alongside him.

When asked if Kulusevski’s central role has eased his own creative responsibilities, Maddison told Football.London: “He’s a forward-thinking player who has played a lot as a winger. He’s a top footballer with an excellent mentality and one of the fittest players I’ve encountered. Playing with him is enjoyable; he’s very attacking, and I love it.
“He’s a creative player, but I never felt the pressure to be the only creative force on the team. Our style allows us to create from various situations based on our philosophy. He was exceptional at Old Trafford, really taking charge and driving us forward. His ability to carry the ball is impressive. There’s a great balance in the midfield right now, and it’s a pleasure to play alongside him, especially when he’s performing like that.”
