“James Maddison Breaks Silence: Shocking Truth About Tottenham’s Mentality After Dramatic Collapse to Brighton!
James Maddison acknowledged that Tottenham mentally collapsed in the second half, resulting in a 3-2 loss to Brighton.
Spurs established a two-goal lead in the first half with goals from Brennan Johnson and Maddison himself. However, a second-half downturn allowed Brighton to score three goals and claim all three points on Sunday.
In a visibly frustrated post-match interview, Maddison admitted that Spurs fell apart too easily.
“Yeah, it definitely could have been avoided,” he told Sky Sports when asked if the team struggled mentally after their strong first half. “Brighton are a good side with talented players. In tough moments in the Premier League, you have to stay resilient and weather the storm.
“The best teams maintain their composure during those times—we didn’t do that.”
When discussing why Spurs couldn’t respond after conceding the first goal and ended up allowing three in just 18 minutes, Maddison stated: “We couldn’t handle the shift in momentum. We lost control of the game once the first goal went in.
“We managed momentum poorly and couldn’t regain control—every attack from them felt relentless. We couldn’t cope, and they capitalized with three goals.
“While we’ve been on a good run, this feels like a step back. We talked about avoiding complacency, but words mean nothing if we don’t back them up with our performance.”
