“‘Drop him immediately; he’s just overhyped by fans’ – Calls for Ange Postecoglou to bench underperforming flop following his reckless performance against Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur experienced a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

The London club started strong, taking a 2-0 lead in the first half, but everything fell apart after halftime. Destiny Udogie misplayed a clearance, allowing Yankuba Minteh to score. He then struggled defensively against Georginio Rutter, who equalized for Brighton. Just after the hour mark, Udogie was again at fault, getting nutmegged by Rutter before Danny Welbeck scored.

It was a difficult match for Udogie, who Football.london rated as the worst player on the pitch with a score of 3/10. His poor positioning and inability to maintain possession—losing the ball 10 times—contributed to the team’s downfall. While he won 9 of 12 ground duels, he did not contest any aerial challenges. Despite a promising start, the left-back played a significant role in the loss.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou faces a crucial decision after the international break. Following the team’s lackluster second-half performance against Brighton, he needs to consider making changes.

Udogie should be among those dropped from the starting lineup. The £38 million signing has impressed with his attacking runs but has struggled defensively in recent matches.

With an important London derby against West Ham United on the horizon, Postecoglou might opt for Ben Davies, especially with Jarrod Bowen’s strong form on the opposing side.

Spurs’ defensive issues cost them dearly last season as they missed out on a top-four finish by just two points. Improving their defensive organization will be key, even as Ange aims for an attacking style of play.
