“‘You Won’t Believe Who’s to Blame!’ Ange Postecoglou Breaks Silence After Tottenham’s Defeat to Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has taken responsibility for his team’s disappointing second-half performance against Brighton.

The Lilywhites started strong, with Brennan Johnson scoring first and James Maddison extending their lead before halftime. However, Yankuba Minteh quickly responded for Brighton early in the second half. Georginio Rutter equalized shortly before the hour mark, and Danny Welbeck then put the hosts ahead, completing a remarkable turnaround after a shaky start.

Postecoglou reflected on the match, acknowledging that the defeat falls on him. Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, he suggested that complacency may have contributed to the loss.

“Maybe we thought we could just roll out and perform well again, but that’s not how it works, and we paid the price. We’ve conceded before, but it’s about how you react, and our reaction wasn’t what it should have been. It’s a bad day for us, and ultimately, the responsibility lies with me,” he said.

In other news, Tottenham faces stiff competition in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. According to reports from Football Insider, Liverpool has entered the race for the 26-year-old, joining Newcastle and Spurs in their interest.

A £68 million release clause will come into effect in the summer of 2025, but by next summer, Eze will have just two years left on his current contract, which he signed after joining Palace from Queens Park Rangers in 2020. His deal runs until 2027.

Given this situation, Palace may be open to offers between £50-60 million next year if they cannot agree on new terms with Eze, although they are unlikely to entertain any negotiations during the January transfer window.

Palace has already seen one star leave, with Michael Olise transferring to Bayern Munich for £50 million. Defender Marc Guehi has also attracted interest after his strong performances for England at Euro 2024.
