The second incident concerned a challenge between James Tarkowski and Sandro Tonali, with Ben Foster criticizing VAR for not awarding a penalty.
Webb has now weighed in on the Calvert-Lewin incident. The Everton striker expressed his frustration at the lack of a penalty, believing he was about to score.
In his comments on Match Officials Mic’d Up, Webb supported the on-field decision. He stated, “I don’t think it’s a penalty either. It’s a solid judgment. Nick Pope makes a save, and the ball rebounds, leading to both players moving towards it. Burn moves in a straightforward manner, placing his foot in front of Calvert-Lewin without making a deliberate foul.”
Webb noted that while Calvert-Lewin did make contact with Burn from behind while attempting a shot, it was a typical challenge and not a foul by Burn.
Despite Webb’s reasoning, many Everton fans will still feel aggrieved. They argue that Burn’s actions were meant to disrupt Calvert-Lewin as he prepared to shoot, with Burn appearing to intentionally obstruct him. The incident remains contentious and likely to spark differing opinions.
