Lucas Paqueta, who is currently facing charges from the FA for breaching betting regulations, has criticized recent rumors about his case and is calling for an investigation.

The West Ham midfielder was charged in May with four offenses related to the FA’s betting rules. According to a statement from the FA, “West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta has been charged with misconduct concerning alleged violations of FA Rules E5 and F3.”

The charges involve four breaches of FA Rule E5.1 related to matches against Leicester City on November 12, 2022; Aston Villa on March 12, 2023; Leeds United on May 21, 2023; and AFC Bournemouth on August 12, 2023. He is accused of attempting to influence the outcome of these games by deliberately seeking a card from the referee to affect the betting market for personal gain.

Paqueta also faces two charges under FA Rule F3 for alleged non-compliance with FA Rule F2, with a deadline of June 3, 2024, to respond to the charges, barring any extension requests.

In light of recent speculation about his case, Paqueta has expressed frustration over “entirely false and misleading” reports and has directed his lawyers to request an investigation into how information has been leaked.

“I am upset to read misleading and inaccurate articles, published in both England and Brazil, claiming to reveal details about my case,” Paqueta stated on social media. “Much of this information is false and misleading, clearly sourced from someone close to the case. The FA proceedings should be confidential and are very serious for me and my family.”

He added, “The ongoing leaks and publication of inaccurate information jeopardize my right to a fair hearing. Therefore, I have instructed my lawyers to ask the FA to conduct a thorough investigation into how any information, even if inaccurate, has been made public.”

Paqueta reiterated his denial of the charges and expressed his eagerness to prove his innocence.
