Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has acknowledged that the team’s lack of points is a significant issue, though he cites several factors contributing to their struggles this season.
In an interview with Sky in Austria, Glasner discussed the challenges facing Crystal Palace after a tough start. Currently, the team is sitting 18th in the Premier League, winless in their first seven matches, and with only four points to show for their efforts. They’ve lost five of those games, crucially dropping points against fellow relegation contenders like Everton and Leicester City.
This disappointing start has overshadowed the positive momentum from last season, when Glasner’s arrival led to an impressive run that saw them finish tenth, well clear of the relegation zone.
The summer transfer window was also disappointing, with key players Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen sold to Bayern Munich and Fulham, respectively. Their replacements arrived late, further complicating the situation.
Glasner stressed the importance of considering these factors: “Of course, we’re not satisfied with our points total; it’s clearly a problem. While our performances have often been better than the results, we’re missing a few key elements to turn those games in our favor.
“We had several late transfers, with four coming in on deadline day, which wasn’t ideal. Ismaila Sarr joined very late, and that timing could have been improved. Additionally, many players had limited preparation time, with 12 of them having less than ten days to prepare, which affects about 60% of the team.
“Because of all this, we didn’t start well and lost some self-confidence, which we’re now trying to regain. The combination of late transfers, lack of joint preparation, and early defeats has impacted our morale.
“However, the positive takeaway is that we’re competitive in every match. It’s crucial for us to remain composed, keep working hard, and bring everyone up to speed—tactically, technically, and in terms of team spirit—to secure that much-needed victory.”
