Despite these setbacks, it’s still early in the season, and a London derby against a struggling West Ham United offers a great chance for Spurs to get back on track.
Paul Merson believes Tottenham will secure a win against West Ham.
The Hammers, who replaced David Moyes with Julen Lopetegui at the end of last season, had a busy transfer window, spending nearly £120 million on nine new players. However, they’ve had a tough start, winning only twice and currently sitting 12th in the standings.
Merson predicts a 2-1 victory for Tottenham at home, noting that Lopetegui has yet to find his optimal starting XI.
“West Ham haven’t met expectations. Once Lopetegui identifies his best team, they should improve,” Merson stated in his Sportskeeda column. “However, I question whether he knows what that is. They had a solid win against Ipswich last time, but the international break may have disrupted their momentum.”
Merson added that West Ham might revert to their previous struggles, and with time to regroup at Tottenham, he’s backing Spurs for the win.
Tottenham needs to find more consistency in their performances. Their three defeats this season have come against Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Brighton, and they could argue they deserved at least draws in those matches if they had maintained their composure.
The loss to Brighton was particularly frustrating, as they let a two-goal lead slip away before halftime.
Postecoglou has a relatively young squad, but his players possess the quality needed to secure results and improve their consistency. The upcoming match against a struggling West Ham side presents an ideal opportunity for them to return to winning form in the Premier League after the break.
