West Ham United legend Tony Cottee described the team’s performance at Tottenham Hotspur as “embarrassing” and highlighted a key mistake by manager Julen Lopetegui.
Despite taking an early lead through Mohammed Kudus, which came against the flow of the game, Tottenham quickly equalized. Dejan Kulusevski scored in the 36th minute, and after halftime, Spurs ramped up their intensity.
They went on to score three more goals from Yves Bissouma, an Alphonse Areola own goal, and Heung-Min Son, sealing a 4-1 victory. To make matters worse for West Ham, Kudus received a red card just four minutes from the end.
Cottee expressed his disappointment, calling the second-half display an embarrassment. He also criticized Lopetegui for being slow to make substitutions.
On X, Cottee stated, “Embarrassing second-half performance, too slow with substitutions, and now our best player is out for three games. Can’t wait for next Sunday.”
West Ham is set to host Manchester United next weekend before facing Nottingham Forest.
