With Just 7-tackles, 5 shots, 5-crosses, 4-dribbles and  3-key passes made on top of his strike was PIVOTAL in turning the game around to save him his place”- Troy Deeney makes bold Leicester City decision with Steve Cooper sack verdict

Leicester City’s standout players are finally receiving the recognition they deserve following consecutive Premier League victories, including a comeback win against Southampton this weekend.

Despite trailing 2-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium, the Foxes didn’t let the international break disrupt their momentum. They faced a tough challenge in the second half but managed to pull through just in time.

Facundo Buonanotte ignited the comeback with a goal in the 64th minute, paving the way for Jamie Vardy’s equalizer from the penalty spot after Ryan Fraser was sent off. Jordan Ayew then secured the win with a goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time. Buonanotte’s performance earned him a spot in Troy Deeney’s BBC Sport team of the week.

Deeney noted that while Buonanotte’s side struggled initially, his bravery and energy provided a crucial spark, helping turn the game around. With the third-most touches among his teammates, along with seven tackles, five shots, five crosses, four dribbles, and three key passes, the 19-year-old’s contribution was vital.

Despite much of the post-match praise going to substitute Abdul Fatawu, whose speed significantly impacted the game after his introduction, Buonanotte’s role in the victory was crucial. Fatawu assisted Buonanotte’s goal, hit the crossbar, and set up Ayew’s winner.

Deeney also named Steve Cooper as manager of the week for leading such a strong comeback. He emphasized that had Leicester lost, their manager likely would have been dismissed. Cooper’s halftime adjustments mirrored his strategies in previous matches, resulting in a significant turnaround in performance during the second half. The team’s ability to overcome a 2-0 deficit was commendable.
