Injury-Hit Everton Relies on Calvert-Lewin’s Resurgence Amid Mixed Form

Everton’s season has been marred by injuries just eight games into the Premier League campaign. However, one unexpected bright spot has been the fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has stayed injury-free despite his long history of setbacks.

Between 2021 and 2023, the striker endured numerous injuries, from muscular strains to freak accidents, sidelining him for weeks or even months. In total, he missed 63 games across two seasons. Yet, Calvert-Lewin now reflects on that difficult period without regret.

Speaking to Everton’s official website, the 27-year-old described his injury struggles as a “blessing in disguise.”

“My body feels great, and it shows how quickly things change in football—it feels like those injuries are well behind me now,” he said. “Being healthy again means everything to me. There was a time when I prayed just to be in this condition. It was tough, always rushing back, wanting to help the team, but that only made things worse.”

During his recovery, Calvert-Lewin’s obsession with football shifted toward learning about physical wellness. “I tried everything—if one method didn’t work, I tried another. That period forced me to explore things like nutrition, yoga, meditation, and general health, which I believe will help extend my career.”

Despite the frustration of missing so many games, the forward says he believes everything happens for a reason.

Form Still a Concern for Everton’s Leading Striker

Though Calvert-Lewin’s fitness is no longer an issue, his form has been inconsistent. He has scored twice this season but has also missed seven big chances, drawing criticism. Still, his ability to hold up play and link with teammates makes him Everton’s most reliable striker at the moment.

There are concerns about his future, however, as his contract is set to expire this summer, raising the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer. Everton’s other striker options—like Beto—offer energy but lack Calvert-Lewin’s control and experience.

The pressure on him could increase once Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti return from injury, potentially challenging his position. Until then, Calvert-Lewin remains crucial to Everton’s hopes this season.
