Paul Merson has forecasted that West Ham United will draw 2-2 with Manchester United on Sunday, October 27, placing pressure on the visitors to secure a result.

West Ham is coming off a heavy 4-1 loss to Spurs last weekend, which also led to the FA charging the club and Mohammed Kudus for a brawl that erupted following the forward’s red card.

Merson, a Sky Sports pundit, believes West Ham can rebound from their recent defeat, emphasizing that Erik ten Hag will face more pressure to perform at the London Stadium. In his Sportskeeda Premier League predictions, he remarked, “This is a significant match for West Ham. Regardless of their current form, Manchester United is a big club, and their visit will create a special atmosphere.”

He continued, “I believe both teams can present challenges for each other. While I don’t intend to disrespect Manchester United, this is an excellent opportunity for West Ham to turn their season around. They haven’t found their rhythm, but if they do on Sunday, it could test Manchester United significantly.”

Merson highlighted Ten Hag’s ongoing pressure as Manchester United’s manager, noting that a loss to a team sitting 15th in the league would be unacceptable. Conversely, winning would meet expectations, but Merson feels Ten Hag’s path to earning goodwill is challenging.

He added, “I don’t think he’s going anywhere; the plan at Old Trafford is for the long haul. I’m expecting a draw here.”

Julen Lopetegui faces a significant selection challenge ahead of the match. With Kudus unavailable, he may consider dropping underperforming players like Lucas Paqueta and Alphonse Areola in a bid to improve West Ham’s fortunes.

With only five points separating them from the relegation zone, West Ham must improve results to avoid chaos at the club. Lopetegui needs players eager to don the claret and blue and support his efforts in the Premier League.

While Lopetegui faces pressure in East London, it pales compared to Ten Hag’s situation. A victory could see West Ham leapfrog the 12th-placed side, making this an opportune moment to justify their £150 million summer investment and the decision to appoint Lopetegui as David Moyes’ successor.

In related news, Jamie Carragher has also predicted the outcome of the West Ham versus Manchester United match.
