Paul Merson has shared his prediction for this weekend’s match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham, and it may not be encouraging for Spurs supporters.
Tottenham recently squandered a 2-0 lead, losing 3-2 to Brighton in their last match before the October international break. However, they bounced back impressively by defeating West Ham 4-1 last weekend and securing a 1-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday.
This Sunday, Spurs face another London derby at Selhurst Park. A win could elevate them to fifth place in the league, bringing them closer to the Champions League spots.
Despite this, Merson isn’t optimistic about Tottenham’s chances. He referred to the team’s tendency to falter under pressure, suggesting they will only manage a 2-2 draw against Palace.
“I think Crystal Palace will struggle against Tottenham, but it all depends on which Spurs team shows up,” Merson wrote in his predictions column for Sportskeeda. “Sometimes they can be a bit ‘Spursy,’ which is their current issue.
“I was impressed by their first half against Brighton and thought they could compete seriously for the top four. We all know how that turned out. On their day, Tottenham can be a strong team, but they need to deliver that consistently.
“Palace is a tough opponent at home. Oliver Glasner should pair Eddie Nketiah and Jean-Philippe Mateta up front to maximize their chances. Mateta can be a significant threat due to his physical presence.
“This will be a challenging match for Spurs, and I expect it to end in an entertaining draw.
