Tottenham Hotspur Set to Face Crystal Palace as They Aim to Extend Winning Streak

Tottenham Hotspur visits Crystal Palace today, looking to add to the struggles of Oliver Glasner’s team while maintaining their current form.

The Eagles have yet to secure a win in the Premier League this season, while Spurs, under Ange Postecoglou, have won their last two matches since the international break.

Last weekend, Spurs defeated London rivals 4-1, followed by a 1-0 win against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday, keeping their perfect record in the competition.

Postecoglou will be eager to collect another three points in the league today to bolster their chances of a Champions League spot by the end of the season.

To achieve this, he may need to make a tough decision regarding the starting lineup, potentially sidelining one key player to enhance the team’s performance at Selhurst Park.

Why James Maddison Might Be Dropped Against Palace

Despite providing an assist in the Europa League match, midfielder James Maddison could find himself on the bench against Palace. He was substituted at halftime in last weekend’s match against West Ham, which led to Spurs scoring three goals in a quick succession to secure a vital win.

In recent weeks, Dejan Kulusevski has taken on a more central role alongside Yves Bissouma and Maddison. However, given Glasner’s 3-4-3 formation, Postecoglou may choose a more compact and defensive midfield trio, which could mean Maddison misses out.

While it would be a tough call for Maddison to sit out, the team’s attacking performance last weekend showed they can create ample opportunities even without him starting.

The Player Who Could Replace Maddison Against Palace

Mikey Moore impressed in the Europa League, showcasing his ball-carrying ability with a strong performance. However, he’s unlikely to make his first league start, with Timo Werner expected to step in for Heung-min Son if he is unavailable.

Pape Matar Sarr replaced Maddison during the second half against West Ham and made a significant impact on both ends of the pitch. The 22-year-old completed all his passes and created a big chance, matching Maddison’s offensive contribution despite playing a deeper role.

Dubbed “frightening” by talent scout Antonio Mango, Sarr also excelled defensively, winning four duels and successfully executing both of his tackles.

Since Postecoglou’s arrival, Sarr has made great strides, with the manager trusting him to shine in the first team and help Spurs aim for a top-four finish. His performance against Lopetegui’s side highlighted his potential, and with his tenacity, he could present a selection dilemma for Postecoglou, making Maddison the most likely candidate to be left out this afternoon.
