Erik ten Hag has been dismissed by Manchester United following a poor start to the season, leaving the team in 14th place in the Premier League.
The Dutch coach, whose contract was extended until 2026 in July, is expected to receive a substantial compensation package after his removal by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos just three months into the new season.
Club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as interim manager at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, potential candidates for the permanent role include Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, Borussia Dortmund’s Edin Terzic, and former Barcelona manager Xavi.
Thomas Tuchel, who was considered by United during the summer, has been appointed as Gareth Southgate’s successor and will take over as England’s manager in January.
Manchester United announced the decision in a statement on Monday, confirming: “Erik ten Hag has left his position as the manager of the men’s first team.”
