Dominic Calvert-Lewin has expressed his desire to leave a lasting legacy at Everton as speculation surrounding his future intensifies during the final year of his contract.
The 27-year-old has faced significant transfer rumors since the summer, with multiple European clubs reportedly interested in him as his contract approaches its end at Goodison Park.
In the matchday program notes before the 1-1 draw against Fulham on October 26, Calvert-Lewin shared that he is ignoring outside distractions and is solely focused on making history in his last season at Goodison Park. He stated, “I want to etch my name in Everton’s history forever. It’s something that I’m determined to achieve.
“We’re playing a small part in the club’s history now with our final season at Goodison. There’s something special about this place, and for all the great number nines who have played here, I’ll be the last to carry that legacy. That’s very special to me.”
As for the contract situation, Everton fans are left uncertain about whether Calvert-Lewin will extend his time with the club amidst conflicting reports. The Mirror noted that the England international has declined the club’s attempts to negotiate an extension, wanting to keep his options open, while manager Sean Dyche remains optimistic that he will stay beyond this season.
However, Calvert-Lewin’s performance this season has not warranted a contract extension, and he has benefited from the absence of Armando Broja due to injury, as well as Beto’s inconsistent contributions.
The situation could shift rapidly after Beto scored a crucial equalizer against Fulham in the 94th minute.
