We’ll use such tactics against Leicester on Wednesday”- Steve Cooper on high alert after Gary Neville UNVEILED essential CHANGES that Manchester United Ruud van Nistelrooy must IMPLEMENT before the clash against Leicester City

Gary Neville suggests that Ruud van Nistelrooy might consider implementing a back three for Manchester United to address their defensive issues. Following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal, van Nistelrooy has taken over as interim manager as the team prepares to face Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Initially brought in this summer to assist Ten Hag, van Nistelrooy now has the task of improving the squad’s performances.

The team currently sits in 14th place and has faced challenges in multiple areas, particularly in defense, where Ten Hag struggled to find effective combinations. Matthijs de Ligt hasn’t made the expected impact, prompting Neville to advocate for a back three to enhance defensive stability.

He noted that the full-backs, like Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, excel in attack but struggle defensively. Thus, adopting a back three with wing-backs could be a practical short-term solution.

Neville remarked to Sky Sports: “He can set the team up differently. That could happen, adjusting the team’s structure. However, since he’s been alongside Erik ten Hag, I’d be surprised if we saw any drastic changes in the upcoming matches. Significant work is needed with the current players, as they are in a tough spot.

“Ruud will do his utmost. For some time, I’ve thought that United’s players might be better suited to a three-at-the-back formation, particularly due to the issues with the center-back pairings and the full-backs’ greater effectiveness going forward. This change could provide more defensive support.

“I’ve considered this for a while; whether it’s the right move remains uncertain. We’ll see against Leicester on Wednesday if he aligns with Erik’s strategy or chooses a different lineup.”
