A pressing concern for the Friedkin Group is the future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has yet to sign a new contract. With his current deal expiring in the summer, the 27-year-old’s refusal to commit raises alarm bells, as losing such an essential player for free would be detrimental. Calvert-Lewin, who is on the verge of making history, hinted at his ambitions in a conversation with the Liverpool ECHO, stating, “I’m joint-third top scorer in the Premier League for Everton and need 13 more goals to surpass Romelu Lukaku. Becoming Everton’s all-time highest scorer in the Premier League would be a tremendous achievement for me.”
While Calvert-Lewin may not match Lukaku’s scoring prowess, being close to his record is an impressive feat. Lukaku was a key player for Everton, netting 25 league goals in his final season and consistently scoring double figures across four full seasons, amassing 68 goals in 141 appearances. In comparison, Calvert-Lewin has scored 56 goals in 222 appearances, highlighting the difference between their performances.
If Calvert-Lewin can have a standout season, he could surpass both Lukaku and Duncan Ferguson, and the hope is that this can coincide with a new contract.
