Newcastle United advanced to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with a convincing 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night.
The Magpies took the lead in the 23rd minute when Alexander Isak scored from close range after Sandro Tonali intercepted a loose pass outside the box. They extended their lead just three minutes later when Axel Disasi accidentally scored an own goal.
Despite Chelsea’s efforts to stage a comeback in the second half, Newcastle, under Eddie Howe, held firm to secure a much-needed win, ending their three-match winless streak across all competitions.
Several players delivered strong performances, with Isak making headlines by netting his second goal in four days. Emil Krafth also stood out, showcasing his skills at St James’ Park. He effectively neutralized Mykhailo Mudryk, preventing a significant chance for Chelsea just before halftime.
Krafth’s statistics were impressive: he had 54 touches and completed 25 of 27 passes (93 percent accuracy). Since joining the club in 2019 for £5 million, he has won six of his nine duels, made five clearances, and completed two tackles and an interception. Although he lost possession four times, he contributed a key pass and executed two successful dribbles.
Having been an unused substitute in the last six Premier League matches, Krafth will be eager for more playing time following this strong showing under Howe.
