Leicester City manager Steve Cooper criticized the atmosphere at Old Trafford during Wednesday’s 5-2 League Cup defeat to Manchester United, claiming it didn’t intimidate his players.
Goals from Casemiro (2), Bruno Fernandes (2), and Alejandro Garnacho secured United’s spot in the quarter-finals in their first match since Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday. Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy was in charge for the game and received a warm welcome from the fans as he made his way to the dugout.
However, Cooper noted that the atmosphere at Old Trafford was not what he and his team had anticipated. “It wasn’t what we were expecting,” he stated in the post-match press conference. “It wasn’t intimidating at all. It was good to play in.”
Van Nistelrooy is expected to manage the next three games at Old Trafford before Ruben Amorim takes over on November 24th, when United faces Ipswich Town at Portman Road. The 39-year-old is poised to sign a two-year contract with United after the club reached an agreement with Sporting CP on Wednesday.
