Crystal Palace aims for a third consecutive win on Saturday as they take on Wolves.
After a challenging August and early October, the outlook is improving for Crystal Palace following two victories in the past week. The Eagles ended an eight-match winless streak in the Premier League by defeating Tottenham last Sunday and then advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a win over Aston Villa.
This match is crucial at the bottom of the league; a victory would propel the Eagles seven points clear of Wolves, easing relegation concerns.
However, manager Glasner faces challenges with injuries affecting key players. Despite the celebrations following Wednesday’s match, there are issues to address. Wharton is scheduled for surgery, and Eze will miss the game against Wolves and next week’s fixture against Fulham at Selhurst Park.
Finding a replacement for Wharton could be difficult, especially with Jefferson Lerma also sidelined due to injury. When asked about the possibility of using Trevoh Chalobah in midfield, Glasner suggested a different option instead.
“I haven’t considered Chalobah in midfield,” Glasner said. “The back three are working well together, and I prefer to keep them intact. We have other solutions available—Cheick [Doucoure] and Justin Devenny are ready to play.”
For Crystal Palace fans, it’s reassuring that Glasner is no longer considering Wednesday’s standout player, Daichi Kamada, for a central midfield role. This likely means that Will Hughes will partner either Doucoure or Devenny in midfield.
Doucoure is returning from injury, making it unlikely he will play the full 90 minutes. Therefore, if Doucoure starts, Devenny may come off the bench for his debut. The 21-year-old Northern Irish midfielder is a rising star from the academy, and if he gets the opportunity, the traveling fans will undoubtedly support him.
