Newcastle United Stars Shine Against Arsenal
Newcastle United showcased several standout players in their match against Arsenal on Saturday, with Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon grabbing much of the attention.
Lewis Hall continued his impressive development in a Newcastle shirt, while Anthony Gordon’s brilliant assist for Alexander Isak drew comparisons to David Beckham. Both players excelled, helping Newcastle resemble the strong side they were a couple of seasons ago.
Across the pitch, there were exceptional performances, and Alan Shearer highlighted a player who may not have received immediate credit after the victory over Arsenal: Tino Livramento.
Alan Shearer Praises ‘Outstanding’ Tino Livramento
On the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer discussed Livramento’s impactful display at right-back. Lineker noted, “It took a while for Livramento to secure his place, but I thought he was really impressive against Arsenal.”
Shearer added, “He was superb as well. Both full-backs were outstanding. Martinelli hardly had a kick, thanks in large part to Livramento. He’s faced tough competition, especially with Kieran Trippier being sidelined. Now that Trippier is injured, Livramento has a chance to claim this position for himself.”
When Will Kieran Trippier Return?
Livramento has stepped in as Newcastle’s starting right-back due to Kieran Trippier’s injury. The 34-year-old has missed the last four matches with a hamstring issue and is expected to be out until after the international break, meaning Livramento will likely retain his spot against Nottingham Forest next Sunday.
Making Himself Undroppable
The £32 million signing will have another opportunity to demonstrate why he should be Newcastle’s first-choice right-back following his strong performance against Arsenal.
Livramento effectively contained Gabriel Martinelli, similar to how Lewis Hall managed Bukayo Saka on the opposite side. His display was excellent, but establishing himself as a consistent starter at St James’ Park will require ongoing performance and Eddie Howe’s trust in him.
Livramento needs to make himself indispensable, even when Trippier returns. Shearer believes he is on the right track, stating that the 21-year-old’s time is now.
