West Ham United may soon be searching for a new manager, despite appointing Julen Lopetegui just five months ago in May.
The Spaniard has led the team to only three wins from ten Premier League matches this season, leaving the Hammers in 14th place—far below expectations, especially after a summer spending spree of around £150m on new signings.
TBR Football understands that club chairman David Sullivan is growing increasingly concerned with Lopetegui’s results, but for now, the 58-year-old’s position remains secure. However, there is a clear recognition that performances must improve quickly.
Sources have also revealed to TBR Football that should Lopetegui depart, Porto manager Sergio Conceição is being considered as a potential replacement for West Ham. However, TV personality Jeff Stelling has suggested another name: former Chelsea and Everton boss Frank Lampard.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Stelling said: “I’m not bringing up Moyes here, but could it be time for West Ham to bring Frank Lampard back? He’s available and while he’s been linked to the Roma job, West Ham could be an ideal fit for him. I know Lopetegui is there now, but it’s just a speculative thought.”
Lampard, 46, has managed 83 wins from 196 matches across stints with Derby County, Chelsea, and Everton. His last role at Everton ended in January 2023 when he was dismissed with the team languishing in 19th place.
The suggestion, however, was met with heavy criticism from West Ham fans, many of whom voiced their disapproval on talkSPORT.
While Lampard built a strong playing legacy at West Ham with 179 appearances for the club, his managerial career has been far less successful. Despite his early promise at Derby, where he helped the club to a playoff final, his managerial stints at Chelsea and Everton were marked by inconsistency and underperformance.
For many, hiring Lampard would feel like a step backward, especially when considering David Moyes’ recent tenure, which also failed to meet expectations. Given his struggles at the Premier League level, some argue Lampard would be better suited to a Championship role—similar to his time at Derby—before attempting to take charge of another top-flight club.
