Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Richards explained his choice to coach Wolves, citing the strong squad as a key reason. He mentioned players like Strand Larsen, Cunha, Gomes, and Ait-Nouri as part of the talent pool. When asked by Alan Shearer if Wolves had the best chance of surviving among the teams in the relegation zone, Richards responded, “I think they’ve got the best players. But once confidence drops, it can be very difficult.”
Richards also acknowledged that while the club’s manager, O’Neil, has shown tactical ability, recent results have not gone in his favor. However, he still believes Wolves have the quality to avoid relegation.
Despite the talented squad at his disposal, O’Neil’s tenure at Wolves is now in jeopardy. While the team has faced a tough start, it’s possible they would have accumulated more points with a different managerial approach. O’Neil has shown promise in the past, particularly last season, but poor decisions this term have contributed to the club’s struggles.
