FA Delivers Shocking Verdict on Marinakis’ Ban: A Strong Warning to Football’s Elite
November 8 – The appeal by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis against his five-match stadium ban has been rejected, with the FA stating the decision was made to “send a clear message” after Marinakis was found guilty of actions that “undermined respect for the game of football.”
The shipping magnate was sanctioned for improper conduct after spitting on the floor in the direction of Premier League match officials following Forest’s 1-0 home defeat to Fulham on September 28.
Marinakis denied the charge and appealed, but his appeal was dismissed.
In an official statement, the FA said: “Displaying such contempt for match officials in a public setting, where it can be witnessed by others, severely undermines respect for the game. The gravity of the offense is heightened when it comes from someone in a position of power and responsibility within football. It is essential to send a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated in any part of the sport.”
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Edu, who is set to leave his role as Arsenal’s sporting director to join Marinakis, has parted ways with the Gunners, although the club has not confirmed this.
The Brazilian is expected to take up a senior recruitment position within Marinakis’s sports empire, which includes overseeing talent strategy for Nottingham Forest, Greek side Olympiacos, and Portuguese club Rio Ave.
It is reported that Edu will serve a six-month gardening leave at Arsenal, during which time he will not be involved in any of the club’s day-to-day activities, including attending matches or visiting the training ground.
Edu’s departure is a significant loss for Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta, who has relied on Edu’s close collaboration in shaping the team’s success. Despite being in contention for the title, Arsenal currently finds themselves seven points behind leaders Liverpool after 10 games this season.
