Daniel Farke should consider dropping Manor Solomon from his Leeds United starting XI following his disappointing performance against QPR in Saturday’s Championship match.
Solomon, one of Farke’s key signings in the summer, started brightly at Elland Road, but since returning from injury, his form has dramatically declined. Although Farke has had limited options on the wings due to Largie Ramazani’s injury, it’s becoming clear that Solomon needs to be replaced in the lineup.
His performance against QPR only strengthened this argument. The attacker was substituted in the 72nd minute after failing to make any significant impact on the game.
Solomon’s Struggles and Lack of Impact
As mentioned, Solomon’s injury appears to have affected his form. While Leeds have been winning regularly, the Tottenham loanee seems to be more of a bystander in their recent success. Graham Smyth noted that Solomon seemed to be “trying too hard” and his frustration was evident on the pitch.
In the 72 minutes Solomon played, he touched the ball just 45 times and recorded an xG (expected goals) of only 0.08, according to Sofascore. While he did have two shots, one was off target and the other, which was a ‘big chance,’ was missed. For an attacker against a weaker team like QPR, this kind of output is underwhelming.
His passing was the one bright spot, with a solid 90% success rate. However, he struggled in other areas. Solomon lost possession 10 times during the match and won only three of his eight attempted ground duels. More concerning, he failed to complete any of his two dribbles, highlighting his lack of effectiveness going forward.
Time for Change
While it’s unfair to judge a player on one game alone, Solomon’s ongoing struggles are a cause for concern. With his recent underperformance, Farke may need to seriously consider making a change in the starting lineup to ensure the team continues to progress.
