“Nottingham Forest Target £42,000-a-Week Premier League Defender Dubbed ‘Fantastic’ by Ian Wright – Could This Be the Next Big Signing?
It’s no surprise that Nottingham Forest are already being linked with new signings as the January transfer window approaches.
Since returning to the Premier League, Forest have made several key signings with varying degrees of success. In the summer, they excelled in their recruitment, bringing in 11 new players, two of whom were loaned out to Olympiacos. Their approach of prioritizing quality over quantity has paid off, with the team currently sitting in fifth place in the Premier League.
One area where Forest struggled in the summer was signing a striker, a pursuit that ultimately went unmet. Santiago Gimenez seemed the most likely candidate, but he turned down a move to Forest on multiple occasions.
With January just around the corner, Forest appear to be looking for new additions. One player they’re reportedly targeting is Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey. According to Caught Offside, a number of clubs, including Forest, Brentford, and West Ham, are interested in the right-back, whose contract expires next summer.
Lamptey, earning £42,000 a week, has shown little intention of staying at Brighton, where he has fallen out of favor under manager Fabian Hurzeler. The 24-year-old has been an unused substitute six times this season, with his only Premier League appearance coming off the bench against Wolves. He has featured in three Carabao Cup matches but is no longer part of Brighton’s campaign, as they’ve been eliminated from the competition. Despite having made 106 appearances for Brighton, his future at the club seems uncertain.
Ian Wright has praised Lamptey, calling him “fantastic” after the player chose to represent Ghana instead of England last September.
Lamptey fits the profile of a player Forest would target. In the summer, the club worked hard to lower the average age of their squad, and they’re unlikely to abandon that strategy. While Lamptey hasn’t been a regular starter at Brighton recently, he still possesses considerable potential. At 24, he has time to develop, and a move to Forest could provide him with the opportunity to prove himself after being sidelined at Brighton.
Forest currently have options at full-back, but that could change in the near future. Ola Aina is in talks over a new contract, but Neco Williams was linked with a move to Atalanta in the summer and may seek more playing time. Additionally, Alex Moreno is only on loan, and Harry Toffolo is likely to depart when his contract expires.
While Forest will face competition for Lamptey’s signature, he would be a strong addition to the squad if the club can secure his transfer.
