Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has entered negotiations to acquire an iconic club, with former Arsenal chief Edu set to take on a global football role under the Greek businessman
Greek businessman Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Nottingham Forest, is looking to expand his football portfolio, which already includes Forest, Olympiakos, and Rio Ave. He is currently in discussions to acquire a controlling stake in iconic Brazilian club Vasco da Gama, although the deal is still in the early stages and far from being finalized.
If successful, the move would see one of football’s most recognizable clubs come under Marinakis’ ownership. Former Arsenal sporting director Edu, who played for Vasco’s domestic rivals Corinthians, is reportedly set to join Marinakis’ team in a global football role. Edu’s new position could make him an influential figure at Vasco if the takeover proceeds.
Vasco da Gama was previously owned by 777 Partners, who also attempted a takeover of Everton. The club has a rich history, having been home to some of Brazil’s greatest players, including Romario, Bebeto, and Mazinho. Marinakis already has established ties to Brazilian football, with recent signings such as Danilo and Murillo arriving from the Campeonato Brasileiro.
