“Sky Sports Reveal Alarming New Update on Jobe Bellingham’s Future at Sunderland
Sunderland have a history of being forced to sell some of their top English talent, including Jordan Pickford, Jordan Henderson, Darren Bent, and most recently, Jack Clarke, who moved to Ipswich Town in the summer. Now, Jobe Bellingham could be the next high-profile player to depart.
Since joining Sunderland from Birmingham City in 2023, the England U21 midfielder has been one of the standout performers, impressing with his dominant displays in midfield. His performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund Leads the Race for Bellingham
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Borussia Dortmund are currently leading the race for Bellingham’s signature. The outlet reported that Dortmund are in discussions with the 19-year-old about a potential move to the Westfalenstadion, where his older brother, Jude, played for three seasons before his summer transfer to Real Madrid.
Sky also highlighted that Dortmund, particularly chief scout Sebastian Krug, maintains a strong relationship with the Bellingham family and has been closely monitoring Jobe’s development—a concerning update for Sunderland fans.
Sunderland Holding Out for £20m
The Guardian’s Ed Aarons reported that Sunderland have turned down multiple offers for Bellingham, including one from Crystal Palace, and are holding out for at least £20 million for their star midfielder.
Palmer Urges Sunderland to Keep Bellingham
Sunderland finished 16th in the Championship last season, but under new manager Regis Le Bris, they’ve looked a much-improved side this term. After 15 games, they are currently top of the league and on track for a Premier League return for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
Bellingham has been integral to Sunderland’s success, and former England international Carlton Palmer believes the club must retain him if they are to secure promotion. “If Sunderland were mid-table, it would be a different story,” Palmer told Football League World. “But with them performing so well, letting someone like Bellingham go could harm their promotion chances.”
However, Palmer also acknowledged that Bellingham may find it difficult to turn down an offer from Dortmund. “It would be a great move for him,” Palmer said. “Dortmund have a strong track record of developing young players, and with his brother’s success there, Jobe will see the benefits of making that move. He’s a very talented player, and he will get the game time he needs to continue his development. I don’t think he’ll resist the chance to join Dortmund.”
