“That is the warning sign”- James McFadden SHOCKS Fans with Bold Defense of Anthony Ralston after Andy Robertson’s CONTROVERSIAL Mistake in Scotland’s WIN over Poland

Anthony Ralston will return to Celtic feeling upbeat after his recent international outings with Scotland.

Though he’s not a regular starter for Celtic in domestic competition, Ralston was given a run in Scotland’s starting lineup for back-to-back matches during the UEFA Nations League this past week under manager Steve Clarke.

It wasn’t an easy task, but Scotland managed to secure two victories, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Celtic fan Andy Robertson against Poland on Monday evening.

With those two wins, Scotland have been given a lifeline to avoid relegation in the UEFA Nations League and will now face a crucial two-legged tie in the spring to preserve their top-tier status.

Ralston played 76 minutes in Poland, having started the full match in Scotland’s 1-0 victory over Croatia at Hampden on Friday. However, it was a tough game for the 26-year-old, who faced heavy defensive pressure throughout. Despite the challenges, Scotland held firm, with James McFadden coming to Ralston’s defense.

McFadden defends Ralston amid defensive mix-up

While Scotland had an early lead thanks to John McGinn’s goal, they were under considerable pressure, particularly after Poland equalized in the second half. In the first half, Scotland nearly handed Poland a goal after a misplaced pass from Robertson and poor defending from both Ralston and Scott McTominay.

Despite Ralston’s role in the mix-up, McFadden shifted the focus to Robertson, criticizing the Scotland captain for a risky square pass that led to the dangerous moment. Speaking to BBC Sport, McFadden said: “I know McTominay and Ralston can do better, but Robertson should know better than to play that square pass. One of them has to take control, but they didn’t. That should’ve been the equalizer for Poland.”

Ralston’s international performances and Celtic future

At Celtic, Alistair Johnston has established himself as the first-choice right-back, with the Canada international currently in superb form. For Ralston, this has meant less domestic action, but his international performances have been valuable for maintaining his sharpness.

For Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, Ralston’s continued international involvement is reassuring, ensuring the player remains match-ready even when not starting for the club.

Ralston can hold his head high after his performance in Poland, with WhoScored awarding him a respectable rating of 6.83 for the match.
