“Killed”- Dan Burn Drops Bombshell Ahead of West Ham Clash: Newcastle Fans Will Be Worried
Newcastle United are hitting their stride once again and will be aiming for a fourth consecutive victory when they face West Ham United.
With the final international break of 2024 now behind them, the Magpies are gearing up for their return to Premier League action. Many of Newcastle’s international players have seen plenty of match action, and the fact that the game is scheduled for Monday night could work to their advantage.
For the players not involved in international duty, the focus has been on a warm-weather training camp in Saudi Arabia. A select group of just 13 senior players traveled to Riyadh for the camp, which came after Newcastle secured three straight wins—beating Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, and following that up with victories over Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
These results have significantly improved the outlook for the season, with a Carabao Cup quarter-final on the horizon and Champions League qualification now a realistic goal.
However, as Newcastle prepare to take on West Ham, there is a slight concern regarding the potential disruption of their momentum due to the international break. Dan Burn spoke to Sky Sports about this, acknowledging that the break might have stalled the team’s rhythm:
“It’s felt a lot more like us [Newcastle’s recent performances],” Burn said. “The international break has probably killed the momentum a little bit. We’re happy. I keep going back to that season we got into the Champions League. We went out there and had no fear and just wanted to dominate against teams. I feel like that’s the mentality we’re starting to get towards again.”
Despite this, Burn remains confident in the team’s progress. The international break has provided a chance for some players to recharge, while others, like Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, earned their England debuts, and Anthony Gordon scored his first senior goal for the national team—boosting their confidence.
Looking back at how Newcastle have fared after international breaks this season, the results have been mixed. After the first break, they secured a 2-1 win at Wolves, although their performance was less than stellar, with Harvey Barnes’ long-range strike saving them. In contrast, after the second break, they lost 1-0 to Brighton despite playing well but wasting several chances.
Now, with hopes of continuing their strong run, Newcastle will aim to play well and secure all three points against a West Ham team struggling this season. Julen Lopetegui is already under pressure at the London Stadium, and Newcastle will be eager to use this opportunity to regain their momentum at West Ham’s expense.
