Newcastle United are considering alternative strategies to secure their top transfer targets in the January window.
The club has been constrained by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules in recent transfer windows, and these restrictions may continue to affect their spending in January. Eddie Howe has indicated that Newcastle might need to sell players in order to balance their books, which could make for another challenging window for the Magpies.
Despite these limitations, Newcastle still have funds available to invest in January if the right opportunity arises, and their main target is becoming increasingly clear.
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is at the top of their wishlist, with Howe keen to strengthen the right wing. The 25-year-old has been in exceptional form this season, netting eight goals in 12 appearances, placing him second in the Premier League’s top scorers list, just behind Erling Haaland.
Newcastle supporters are eager to see Mbeumo join, especially after his standout performances this season, but he is one of Brentford’s most valuable assets. Reports suggest Brentford would demand around £50m for Mbeumo in January, a significant fee for Newcastle as they continue to manage their Profit and Sustainability requirements.
To avoid directly meeting that asking price, Newcastle are exploring other options, including a potential swap deal involving Callum Wilson. According to The Sun, the club is open to including Wilson in a package for Mbeumo, with Liverpool also reportedly interested in the Brentford winger.
With the arrival of William Osula and Vakhtang Salia to bolster their striker options, Newcastle are ready to offload Wilson in January, and may also target another forward in the summer.
