Chelsea will avoid facing Leicester City’s star midfielder Facundo Buonanotte this weekend, as he is suspended for the match.
The Blues are set to visit the King Power Stadium on Saturday for the first Premier League fixture following the November international break. This match will also mark Enzo Maresca’s return to his former club, Leicester, after leaving the Foxes for Chelsea in the summer.
Maresca was succeeded by Steve Cooper at Leicester, who quickly made his mark by signing Buonanotte on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion just weeks after his appointment in June. The 19-year-old has been one of Leicester’s standout players this season, but he will be unavailable for the Chelsea game due to suspension.
Buonanotte received five yellow cards in his ten league appearances so far in the 2024/25 campaign. According to Premier League rules, players who accumulate five yellow cards in the first 19 matches of the season are suspended for one game. His fifth yellow came during Leicester’s 3-0 loss at Manchester United, meaning he will miss the visit of Chelsea.
This suspension will come as a boost for Chelsea, as Buonanotte has been in excellent form, scoring three goals and providing two assists. The Argentine, who netted against Chelsea while playing for Brighton last season, has become a fan favorite at Leicester thanks to his pace, dribbling, and skill on the ball. His absence will be a significant blow to Leicester’s attacking options.
Leicester, currently sitting 15th in the Premier League with 10 points, will be desperate for a result. They are just three points above the relegation zone, with only two wins from 11 matches—both of which came against Bournemouth and Southampton in October.
In contrast, Chelsea will enter the match in third place, full of confidence after a strong start to life under Maresca. The Blues impressed in their 1-1 draw against Arsenal before the international break, and they will be looking to build on that performance as they face Leicester this weekend.
