“Sunderland’s Most Valuable Player Given Shockingly Low Price Tag – A Dream Bargain for Top Clubs
Sunderland are seeing a rise in the transfer values of their players, and with this surge comes growing interest from other clubs.
Although the January transfer window is still over a month away, rumors are circulating that Sunderland could lose one or two of their top talents. This speculation follows an impressive start to the season, with Regis Le Bris’ side currently leading the Championship on goal difference, despite a disappointing 2-2 draw with Coventry City before the international break.
One player making headlines is Chris Rigg, who is attracting attention from Manchester United, with the club potentially active in January under their new manager, Ruben Amorim. Real Madrid is also said to be monitoring the young midfielder.
Another player drawing significant interest is Jobe Bellingham. The Sunderland midfielder impressed during this month’s international break with England U21s, and reports suggest Borussia Dortmund are keeping a close eye on him ahead of January. However, his price tag remains somewhat uncertain, with most reports offering speculation. Now, Football Observatory has provided a more concrete valuation.
According to their study, Bellingham is Sunderland’s most valuable player, with a current market value between €16 million and €21 million (£13.33 million to £17.5 million). Sunderland signed Bellingham from Birmingham City for around £3 million in the summer of 2023. Last season, he scored seven goals in 45 Championship appearances, and this season he has netted two goals in 13 league matches.
The comparisons between Jobe and his older brother Jude Bellingham are starting to emerge, with many believing that Jobe has the potential to follow in Jude’s footsteps. A move to Borussia Dortmund, like Jude’s transfer from Birmingham City to Dortmund in 2020, would be a significant step in his career. At the time, Dortmund paid £25 million up front for Jude, with potential add-ons.
Given this family connection, Sunderland could reasonably aim for a transfer fee above £20 million for Jobe, especially with his growing potential. The added value of his family name would also make any move highly publicized. Therefore, the reported value of as little as £13 million seems a bargain, and it’s likely Sunderland’s owners would hold out for a higher price, considering they only paid around £3 million for him.
