Celtic’s January transfer rumors are already heating up, despite more than six weeks to go before the winter window reopens. While Christmas is still over a month away, the buzz around potential transfers has already begun.
Celtic are in excellent form across all competitions, and there’s little reason to expect major changes to the squad. The starting XI pretty much picks itself, leaving fans wondering whether the club will make any big moves. But with the team performing well, including in the Champions League, there’s still plenty of talk about players potentially attracting interest from other clubs.
Following Matt O’Riley’s departure to Brighton in the summer, there’s a concern that another key player could follow him out the door. One name generating significant attention is Nicolas Kuhn, who has been in superb form this season.
Kuhn’s initial struggles after his move to Glasgow in January are well-documented, but he is now a completely different player, impressing on the pitch with his new-found form. This has led to speculation about his future, with some suggesting that a £30 million offer from Brentford could lure him away in January.
However, Marvin Bartley was quick to dismiss these rumors. Speaking on Clyde 1, he stated that Kuhn would have little interest in leaving Celtic for Brentford, particularly as they are fighting relegation. “No disrespect to Brentford,” Bartley added, “but I don’t think Kuhn would want to leave Champions League football to join a relegation battle.”
Bartley praised Kuhn’s transformation, saying, “He’s been brilliant. Celtic wouldn’t accept £30m now, and I don’t think Kuhn would want to leave. He’d probably want to wait until the end of the season, when his value could increase even more. He’s still so young and improving all the time.”
Given Kuhn’s upward trajectory, Bartley believes a big move will come for him in the future, but he expects him to stay at Celtic for now and enjoy his football, especially if he gets the call-up to the German national team.
Kuhn’s performances this season have been exceptional. WhoScored rates him at 7.56 for his overall performances, including an impressive 7.40 for his Champions League outings. With Celtic still aiming to reach the Champions League knockout stages and Kuhn’s development continuing, selling him in January would be a questionable decision. Staying with the club could only increase his value, both financially and professionally.
