Iliman Ndiaye has sent a clear message to Everton manager Sean Dyche following his standout performance in Senegal’s 2-0 victory over Burundi on Tuesday. Playing on the right wing, Ndiaye played a pivotal role in his country’s win, and his impressive display is sure to provide him with plenty of momentum upon returning to Merseyside.
Since joining Everton in the summer, Ndiaye has proven to be a solid addition to the squad and has become a regular in Dyche’s starting lineup. However, despite his consistent presence, he has been somewhat limited in terms of goal contributions, with only three goal involvements to date.
During the recent international break, Ndiaye demonstrated his versatility by playing both on the right and in a central role, suggesting that he could be more effective in a variety of positions. This flexibility could be key for Dyche in unlocking the full potential of the former Sheffield United forward.
Ndiaye Shines for Senegal
In Senegal’s dominant win over Burundi on 19 November, Ndiaye’s performance stood out. According to Sofascore, during his 45 minutes on the pitch, he had 33 touches and maintained an impressive 95% pass accuracy, with only one of his 20 passes going astray. He also provided an assist and tested the goalkeeper with a shot on target. Although he missed one “big chance,” his overall involvement in the game was significant, showcasing his ability to influence matches.
Two of Ndiaye’s 19 accurate passes were key passes, highlighting his contribution to Senegal’s attacking play. Similar to his role at Everton, he was deployed on the wing, where he won two out of five ground duels and completed all of his aerial duels (1). While he did lose possession nine times, his positive impact on the attack far outweighed the occasional turnovers.
Although Ndiaye played just 45 minutes, his performance demonstrated how much of an impact he can have in a short period of time. It raises the question of whether Dyche might need to experiment with him in different positions to fully harness his talent.
Of course, Dyche must also consider the roles of other players like Dwight McNeil and Jesper Lindstrom, both of whom have been in good form. Nonetheless, it seems that a bit of tactical experimentation may be necessary if Everton hopes to thrive this season.
