Sean Dyche should consider substituting Dominic Calvert-Lewin at halftime if he wants Everton to secure a win against Brentford on Saturday.
The first half of the Premier League match at Goodison Park on 23 November ended 0-0, despite Everton having several promising opportunities in attacking areas.
Calvert-Lewin, in particular, has been a disappointment, continuing to appear well below his usual standard.
The key moment that highlighted Calvert-Lewin’s struggles came in the 26th minute, when he squandered a chance set up by Dwight McNeil. After a brilliant pass, the striker’s poor touch made the angle too tight, resulting in a straightforward save from Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
While Calvert-Lewin did manage to get two of his three shots on target, he failed to beat Flekken on either occasion. His overall contribution has been limited, completing just four of six passes with a 67% accuracy and registering only 13 touches in the first half. With just two goals to his name this season, it’s clear that Calvert-Lewin is well off his best, and Dyche must be growing increasingly frustrated with him.
Everton now have a great opportunity to take all three points, following Christian Norgaard’s red card for a foul on Jordan Pickford just before halftime. Given the circumstances, Dyche cannot afford to take a risk with Calvert-Lewin and should bring on Beto in his place for the second half.
