Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi avoided retrospective punishment for a late tackle on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer during the first half. Although Ndidi’s challenge left Palmer in a heap after seemingly catching him on the Achilles, referee Andy Madley issued only a yellow card, and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) chose not to intervene.
After Palmer made a burst forward and beat his marker, Ndidi appeared to rake down Palmer’s Achilles, leaving the Chelsea man in pain. However, no further action was taken, and it’s understood that the yellow card was not upgraded to a red because Ndidi’s challenge was deemed to lack intensity and was committed from close range.
VAR official Paul Tierney, based in Stockley Park, concurred with the on-field decision, ruling that no intervention was warranted. Chelsea went on to win 2-1 in a dramatic early kick-off at the King Power Stadium, maintaining their third-place position.

However, Leicester were awarded a penalty in stoppage time after Bobby Decordova-Reid was fouled in the box. Initially flagged offside, VAR overturned the decision and confirmed the spot-kick, which Jordan Ayew successfully converted.
