Breaking News”- Leicester City Target Premier League Icon as Potential Replacement for Steve Cooper

The search to replace Steve Cooper at Leicester City has already begun, just hours after his dismissal.

Cooper’s tenure at the King Power Stadium was a difficult one, with the 46-year-old winning only two of his 12 Premier League matches in charge. Leicester’s most recent defeat came against former manager Enzo Maresca and his new Chelsea side on Saturday, a loss that dropped the team to 16th in the Premier League, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

This prompted the Leicester hierarchy to change their stance on Cooper, with the club confirming his sacking in a statement on Sunday.

Leicester Approaches Ruud van Nistelrooy to Replace Steve Cooper

After news of Cooper’s exit broke, Leicester fans quickly voiced their preferences for the club’s next manager. Many pointed to Ruud van Nistelrooy and Graham Potter as the top candidates to steer the club back on course for the 2024/25 season.

Potter has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea over a year ago, while van Nistelrooy recently left his role at Manchester United.

Journalist Rudy Galetti has now provided an update on Leicester’s search for a new manager, revealing that the club has approached van Nistelrooy to discuss the possibility of him taking over. While other candidates, including David Moyes, are also under consideration, Leicester are reportedly prioritizing the Dutchman.

Galetti shared on X/Twitter: “Leicester have approached Ruud van Nistelrooy to explore the negotiation margins to replace Steve Cooper. David Moyes and other names are under evaluation, but LCFC would like to convince the Dutch manager as a priority.”

Other Names Linked to the Leicester Job

While van Nistelrooy is a strong contender, several other names have also been mentioned in connection with the Leicester job. Among them is José Mourinho, a fan favorite who has long been linked with a return to the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag, whom van Nistelrooy temporarily replaced at Manchester United, could also be a potential option.

Other candidates reportedly under consideration include Mark Robins, Carlos Corberán, Michael Carrick, and Liam Rosenior.
