Everton are currently enduring a tough period in the Premier League.
The Toffees were held to a goalless draw by Brentford over the weekend, marking their third consecutive match without scoring. This poor run of form has put manager Sean Dyche under significant pressure, with fans calling for the return of David Moyes to Goodison Park.
However, Alan Myers has reported that the club is fully backing Dyche, meaning he is expected to see out his contract until the end of the season. This also suggests he will be given the January transfer window to strengthen the team, particularly in attack.
That said, Everton may need to sell players in order to fund new signings, and one of their key players is attracting considerable interest from abroad. Qatari club Al-Duhail SC are reportedly keen on signing Idrissa Gueye.
According to Africa Foot, Al-Duhail SC are in talks to offer Gueye a lucrative contract ahead of the January transfer window. With Gueye’s contract expiring at the end of the season, several clubs are monitoring his situation, but it’s believed that any move will not happen until next summer when he could leave for free.
While Gueye has been an important player for Everton, his advancing age means it might be time for him to depart along with other veteran players. Everton currently have the oldest squad in the Premier League, a situation that needs addressing over the next year to avoid jeopardizing their top-flight status.
A squad rebuild is necessary, and given that Gueye earns £80,000 a week, renewing his contract doesn’t seem like the best use of resources. The club would be better off investing in a younger player with similar qualities.
