“I believe he will prevent them from achieving promotion from the Championship”- Darren Bent has pointed out a Leeds United player who could potentially jeopardize the club’s goal of securing promotion from the Championship this season.
Darren Bent has singled out forward Joel Piroe as his primary concern as Leeds United aim for promotion from the Championship this season.
The Dutch striker has played regularly under Daniel Farke and scored important goals, helping Leeds climb to the top of the league. However, Bent has expressed concern about Piroe, despite acknowledging that Leeds are still “one of the favourites” for promotion to the Premier League.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 25 November, he said: “The one position I’m a little bit unsure about is Piroe up front. Joel Piroe. He’s got six goals, but I just feel like… he could do more. In the games I’ve seen, I think he could contribute a bit more.”
“But I still rank Leeds as one of the top contenders for promotion.”
Leeds United need to target a striker in January While Leeds boast one of the strongest squads in the Championship, the striking department is one area that could use strengthening. Many of the team’s goals come from wide players, with Dan James starting to make an impact and Willy Gnonto remaining a constant goal threat.
Piroe and Mateo Joseph often rotate in the central striker role, but neither has been consistently impressive, and Leeds are in need of a reliable forward. Though January transfers can be tricky due to inflated prices, securing a solid striker could be pivotal for Leeds’ promotion hopes.
The club’s ambitions will be tested when the transfer window opens, as other promotion contenders will likely be looking to strengthen their squads. Leeds cannot afford to be complacent in this competitive race.
