West Ham United secured a brilliant 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday night at St James’ Park, moving to within just four points of sixth place in the Premier League table.
It was a fantastic result for West Ham, with Tomas Soucek setting records and former Hammers target Lloyd Kelly enduring a tough match against Michail Antonio. The victory has lifted the mood at the London Stadium, and manager Julen Lopetegui will likely rest easier after such a solid performance.
With Arsenal visiting on Saturday, West Ham fans are now excited about the challenge rather than dreading it. A positive result against the Gunners could spark even greater optimism for the season ahead.
However, one prominent radio host is attempting to stir up controversy where there’s no real issue.
Adrian Durham Urges Jarrod Bowen to Leave West Ham After Newcastle Win
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen is a fan favorite and, in my opinion, the club’s best and most consistent player. It was recently reported that David Sullivan has no intention of selling Bowen at any price. He leads with exemplary work ethic on the pitch and has the potential to become a club legend.
Yet, shock-jock Adrian Durham made an eyebrow-raising claim on talkSPORT (November 25) suggesting Bowen should leave the club. Durham stated, “Jarrod Bowen, you need to leave this club mate. He’s basically an auxiliary fullback. He’s wasted at this club, absolutely wasted. He was linked to Liverpool in the summer, and now he’s playing in a team like this.”
It’s a baffling opinion, especially considering Durham’s penchant for making controversial statements, but this one is particularly hard to understand.
Jarrod Bowen: A West Ham Legend in the Making
Bowen has scored 64 goals and provided 42 assists in 216 appearances for West Ham. So far this season, he has four goals and three assists in 14 matches (Transfermarkt).
Last year, Bowen signed a new contract that runs through to the summer of 2030, confirming his commitment to the club. The 27-year-old clearly enjoys his time at West Ham, taking his role as club captain seriously. Off the pitch, he has twins with his long-term partner Dani Dyer, the daughter of famous West Ham supporter Danny Dyer.
It’s clear that Bowen loves everything about West Ham, and I fully expect him to remain at the club for the duration of his career.
As for Adrian Durham, I’m not sure what game he was watching. Bowen seemed ecstatic after the Newcastle match, and there’s no doubt he was just as pleased with the team’s performance as the fans were. In two or three years, I expect Bowen to be firmly established as a West Ham legend.
