“The OWN-GOAL was never Carter-Vickers fault and shouldn’t be blame for that”- Celtic Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel revealed the RECKLESS player at fault following CALAMITOUS own goal Vs Club Brugge
Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel refused to blame defender Cameron Carter-Vickers for his own goal against Club Brugge on Wednesday, instead suggesting that winger Nicolas Kuhn could have passed the ball to him, and that the loud atmosphere at Parkhead may have contributed to the confusion.
With Kuhn under pressure in his own half, Schmeichel made himself an option for a pass. However, Kuhn chose to pass the ball to Carter-Vickers. The defender, assuming Schmeichel would be in goal, blindly sent the ball toward the net, only to watch in horror as the keeper was unable to recover in time, leading to an own goal for Celtic.
Despite the mistake, Schmeichel did not place the blame on Carter-Vickers. Instead, he pointed out that Kuhn could have passed the ball to him, and that the noise from the crowd may have prevented Kuhn from hearing his call. Schmeichel explained the sequence of events, stating, “It’s one of those things. I was showing for Nicolas [Kuhn]. I think Nicolas could have passed to me. He did well to get the pass to Cam [Carter-Vickers], but he’s surprised by it, and obviously, he’s under pressure. It’s so loud here that he didn’t hear me. It’s just one of those things. We move on; it happens.”
Asked if a draw was a fair result, Schmeichel acknowledged that Celtic were off the pace in the first half but improved after the break. “Probably, on reflection. We weren’t ourselves in the first half. We didn’t get up to the tempo or play at the intensity we know we can. Luckily, we had half-time to change that and adjust our press a little bit, and things got better in the second half.”
When asked if he was satisfied with the result, Schmeichel, a former Premier League winner, said, “Yeah, reasonably. There were chances to win, and there were chances for them as well. I’m reasonably happy.”
