“Will Eddie Howe renew his Deal? Newcastle United’s Major contract decision Umunder intense Scrutiny as KEY Player looks ready to Depart
Newcastle United is facing several significant contract decisions, one of which concerns midfielder Sean Longstaff. Longstaff is among several players whose contracts expire at the end of the season, and the club will need to make crucial decisions before the January transfer window and beyond. Players with six months remaining on their contracts in January are free to negotiate with foreign clubs about a pre-contract agreement, potentially allowing them to leave for free at the end of the season.
Longstaff plays a key role in Eddie Howe’s starting lineup, having started four consecutive matches across all competitions. Newcastle will be keen to avoid losing a valuable player like him on a free transfer, especially given the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, which reward clubs for selling academy-developed players.
It is understood that the club has the option to extend Longstaff’s contract, though the midfielder recently admitted he was unsure if that option had been activated. Reflecting on his future, Longstaff said, “If it’s here, great. If not, it’s not. I want to be valued and appreciated as a player, and if that’s here, fantastic. If not, it’ll be somewhere else.”
Longstaff’s future at the club has sparked considerable debate, but a poll conducted by the Shields Gazette reveals strong support for extending his contract. An impressive 81% of respondents believe the 27-year-old should be offered a new deal, while just 19% disagree.
In addition to Longstaff, Fabian Schar is also set to become a free agent in the summer. However, unlike Longstaff, Schar does not have an automatic extension clause, meaning Newcastle will need to negotiate directly with him and his representatives if they wish to keep him at the club.
